Eight police cars damaged at apartment complex
Monday, May 11, 2009, 03:46 PM
Eight police cars were damaged at the Walnut Creek Apartments off Springdale Road this morning after residents became angry with [mostly white] police, authorities said. Several officers received minor injuries, authorities said.
Three people were arrested, authorities said.
Police Chief Art Acevedo [Hispanic] also said police will likely prosecute citizens who threw objects at police officers after the shooting.
"You don’t get to throw bottles and rocks at police officers," Acevedo said at a City Hall press conference.
Shortly after 10 a.m., a large crowd in the parking lot of the complex began shouting at police. A second crowd outside the gates of the complex was instructed to move away by police.
Two police cars with their back windows busted out were seen leaving the complex.
Nelson Linder, president of the Austin chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, said the behavior by some onlookers at the scene was "embarrassing."
"At this point, nobody wants to hear the facts," Linder said. "If we find out it was wrong, we’re going to hold people accountable. But right now this is unacceptable."
[So does that mean that at some point in the future the NAACP will find this behavior acceptable?]
"We’re going to find the facts, but their cooperation is important."
Police monitor Cliff Brown [Black] said emotions were raw at the apartment complex.
"I think people are feeling frustrated, and that’s based on a history of police shootings," he said. "It’s a tragedy. A life has been lost. We want to make sure the case is investigated fairly."
[Why don't you say what history reveals about these "police shootings." Most if not all of these shootings by police are to keep the public safe from animals like the ones in the linked video below. If we are going to talk truth here, lets "keep it real" as they say. Lets see if this guy stands up for what's right? Or succumb to the tribal mentality and defend the animals who caused this problem.]
At about 11 a.m., dozens of [mostly white] officers could be seen inside the apartment complex, and a police helicopter was circling overhead. Several officers had shotguns.
Shortly before noon, police took down the crime scene tape and allowed residents to re-enter the apartment complex.
City Manager Marc Ott was at the scene and later addressed reporters who were being kept across the street.
"I’m just here trying to sort through what happened. I think it has calmed down," Ott said. "I thought it was important for me to be here and support the people and our officers."
[City Manager Marc Ott [black] was there to get some face time. Nothing more, nothing less. Who knows, maybe he wants to be the next Obama!]

They're already starting to downplay the rioting, and many articles have been revised and the videos removed. Very reminiscent of the post-Katrina media coverage.

P.S. I've heard that only one of the numerous rioters missed work (she held a government position... dusting a seat with her oversized buttocks... and will not be fired for missing work.)
